Book review: Daisy Jones and the Six

Updated: Sep 14, 2020

After a year or so of having Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid on my TBR list (and hearing friends go on and on about it), I finally lucked out at a Little Free Library and found a copy! It felt like a sign that I needed to stop putting off this book. And let me tell you, I am so glad I did!

Daisy Jones and the Six was a uniquely riveting tale of a fictional rock n’ roll band in the 70’s. I adored the way that Reid presented the story in interview format. It made me feel like I was in on a secret, like I was hearing interview tapes that weren’t meant for me. I impatiently watched the story unfold as I tore through the pages. I felt frustrated, impressed, and wistful of the rock n’ roll ear as I followed The Six through their ever-fluctuating relationship with Daisy Jones. Even more so, I watched Daisy and Billy’s relationship ebb and flow. I never knew what to make of it, and that kept me hanging on.

Probably my most favorite part of the book, though, was the humor that Reid sprinkled in throughout the dialogue of the band members. Like I said before, it felt like I was in on a secret and the inside jokes encompassed in it. Like I was sitting right there with the interviewer. I laughed out loud many times, and really admire Reid’s writing style. It gave it a whole new level of depth. I felt like I knew that characters personally! I was sad to see this book end so quickly.

Take this as inspiration to read a book that’s been on your TBR list for ages!

xx, Lauren
