This morning I woke up to a clear sky and warm sunshine! If you’ve ever spent the summer on Cape Cod, you know this isn’t always a guarantee. This past week (or two, or three) has been consistently partly-cloudy, so I decided to take advantage of the lovely weather and try to have a “normal” summer morning.
As we all know, reminders of how life used to be pre-covid are few and far between. I’ve grown to hardly acknowledge that sinking feeling that comes whenever a reminder of the pandemic interferes with a spare carefree moment. This morning was no exception- I didn’t let mask wearing or social distancing get in the way of a good time!
The 20-minute line at Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters in Brewster could not deter me from getting a long-awaited latte. I highly recommend their iced vanilla latte with oat milk! I also couldn’t resist a slice of lemon bread, and fully enjoyed my breakfast reading in their shady garden. I even made a new, feathery friend!
Not only are the grounds at Snowy Owl gorgeous and green, but they had an open-air art market, herb shop, and community gratitude mural as well (note my contribution- an amateur sunflower). Everyone there was so friendly and clearly soaking up the beautiful morning as well.
Heading home from Snowy Owl, I noticed that the local bookshop, Brewster Books, had tents set up outside for socially distant (and masked) shopping. They had a huge collection of Anti-Racism books, as well as beach reads. I completely forgot to snap any photos- I was too busy enjoying being back in my element (aka supporting local independent bookstores). However, I will link their store here so you can check out their online and curbside selections! After some browsing I decided on a copy of Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward. I am looking forward to starting it at the beach this afternoon!
I hope that you, too, were able to find some “normalcy” this Saturday morning as we all learn to navigate this new way of the world.
xx, Lauren
